When you are in Drafter mode or above, Outband prepares draft responses for your messages. This guide covers how to review, refine, and send those drafts.
Draft generation requires the Professional plan ($60/month) or higher. Free tier users (Starter plan) can view AI summaries and categorization but cannot generate drafts.

How Drafts Work

When Outband identifies a message that needs a response, it:
  1. Analyzes the sender’s Contact Model to understand their communication style
  2. Uses your Personal DNA to match your voice and tone
  3. Generates a draft response calibrated for the specific recipient
  4. Shows you a confidence score indicating how well the draft fits the context

Reviewing a Draft

From the Daily Briefing

When viewing a briefing item that has a draft:
  1. Select the item to expand it
  2. You will see the original message and the AI-drafted response side by side
  3. The draft shows a confidence score — higher scores mean the AI is more certain about the response

From the Drafts page

Select Drafts in the sidebar to see all pending drafts in one place. Each draft shows:
  • The original message summary
  • The recipient and their Contact Model confidence
  • When the draft was generated
  • The draft status (pending review, edited, ready to send)

Editing a Draft

You can edit any draft before sending:
  1. Select the draft text to enter edit mode
  2. Make your changes — you can rewrite entirely or make small adjustments
  3. Outband tracks your edits as feedback to improve future drafts
Every edit you make teaches Outband about your preferences. If you consistently change a certain phrase or adjust the tone for a specific contact, Outband will learn to do this automatically.

Perception Preview

Before sending, you can check how your message will likely be perceived by the recipient.
  1. Select Preview Perception on any draft
  2. Outband shows a prediction of how the recipient will interpret your message
  3. You will see potential areas of concern — tone, clarity, cultural sensitivity
  4. If the prediction suggests issues, you can adjust the draft
This feature uses the recipient’s Contact Model to simulate their perspective — what Outband calls the “Tanaka-san moment.”
Perception Preview accuracy improves as the Contact Model builds. For contacts with limited history, the preview will note its lower confidence.

Sending a Draft

Once you are satisfied with the draft:
  1. Select Send to deliver the message immediately
  2. Or select Schedule to send at a specific time
  3. The message is sent through your connected email account — it appears in your Gmail or Outlook sent folder as normal

Composing New Messages

You can also compose new messages from scratch:
  1. Select Compose from the Drafts page or the navigation
  2. Choose a recipient — Outband will show their Contact Model summary
  3. Type your message or let Outband generate a draft based on the context you provide
  4. Review the Perception Preview before sending

Draft Quality Tiers

The AI model used for drafts depends on your subscription:
PlanAI ModelDraft Quality
Starter (free)Sonnet-classSummaries and categorization only — no draft generation
Professional ($60/mo)Opus-classHigh-quality drafts with full Contact Model context
Executive ($200/mo)Opus-classSame quality, plus autonomous handling for routine messages

Best Practices

Let Outband learn your preferences before trusting drafts without review. The correction feedback loop needs your input to improve.
For messages to executives, investors, or important clients, always check the perception prediction before sending.
When a draft is close but not perfect, edit the specific parts that need adjustment rather than rewriting from scratch. This gives Outband more precise feedback.
